From great ambitions to major accomplishments
From great ambitions to major accomplishments

The national Chairman of the Cameroon people’s democratic movement, Paul Biya has unveiled his vision for the Cameroonian nation in the forth comming mandate in case he is voted in.

Speking during a heavily attended Cpdm 3rd Ordinary congress inaugural Thursday September 15, Mr Biya true to himself and unique in his style, left fellow comrades, delegates to the event and guests spell bound with his address.

He painted a fore picture of what he would want Cameroon to look like in the coming seven years if renew their confidence in him. The dexterity and flair with which he outlined projects in the various sectors of the national life that would enable him achieve his vision of emergence for Cameroon, is proof of a leader who has analyzed the situation on ground and after thorough consultations devised solutions for the medium and long term. He wants to leave behind a Cameroon for which he would be remembered for. In the energy sector apart from the ongoing Lom Pangar, Memvele and Meking projects, he reassured attendees of the imminent take off of the Nachtigal dam projects and several others to Cameroon’s energy supply capacity. His objective is to move Cameroon from its current 1024 megawatts capacity to at least 3000 megawatts by 2020. For easier evacuation of mineral resources in the hinterlands, President Biya  announced a complete makeover extension of the rail network while work for the building of a second bridge over the Wouri river in Douala is about taking off. In his words “much has been done, much is being done but much is still to be done.” Here mentioned the take off of Camairco and the Kribi deep seaport amidst assurance for the imminent start of works at the Limbe wharf against the backdrop of deep seaport projects. He lamented the fact that Cameroon imports to eat. By his promise, “we should not import to eat but rather we should export to earn more revenue.” This he added “can only be possible if we fully exploit our agricultural potential.” Though several billions have been pumped into the sector already and bank created to ease access to funding for farmers, it is very likely that Mr Biya would not rest until Cameroonians can each be entitled to a square meal daily. In his words “things must change, such a situation is intolerable.” Yes much has been done in the domains of health, education and projects underway for the construction of 10 000 cheap lodging facilities for low income earners. But the latter he said is not going on at the speed he expected so “I have instructed the Prime minister turn the tides as far as the project is concerned. He is envisaging a better social security coverage system for Cameroonians in the next mandate. In his words, “though we have a good social security system, we have to modernize and upgrade it to meet international standards.” Holding on the theme, Cpdm: the fresh impetus, its national chair in his general policy speech eluded no point. There was no taboo topic. He said he will battle tooth and nail for a better present as well as a promising future for the youth because the Cameroon of tomorrow rests with them. In that respect he urged them to get more involved in the political life of the nation so as to sharpen their leadership skills for imminent takeover from the old order. “I want a dynamic and more vital Cpdm in which youths would take up functions and work in all abnegation, humility and pass all for the collective good,” said President Biya. To him the Cpdm has merited the confidence of the Cameroonian people for all these years and it should work harder to continue meriting it.
